Dandrieu or D'Andrieu, Jean-François

Paris 1682 - Paris 1738

Biography

Dandrieu became the organist at Saint Merry in Paris in 1704, and in 1721 was appointed at the prestigious Royal Chapel in Paris. His musical productions, mainly for organ and harspichord, are amongst the most significant of the early classic period, and were largely influenced by Couperin. Today his name is particularly linked with three volumes Pièces de clavecin, which were published in 1724, 1728 and 1734.  Dandrieu also wrote works such as violin sonatas and other chamber music, including the suite for strings: I caratteri della guerra (1718). Dandrieu's greatest achievements were as a harspichord composer.
